Commuters on the western end of the GTA polished up their winter skills... this morning.
A narrow streamer off Lake Ontario brought heavy snow just as the morning drive was kicking in. Now for some, this morning's drive was a warmup for what is on the way.
A system in the US is pushing up a messy mix of snow, rain, and freezing rain into Ontario. Snow from that system is already falling in the north. It's expected to start in the south during the overnight hours-
I sound like I know what I'm doing!
-and that could have freezing rain in time for the morning drive.

It started off innocently enough, you know. We've all seen freezing rain, and if it lasts a little while it'll coat branches and it looks nice, actually. But then, one hour to the next, one day to the next, it accumulated more and more and more on the branches and... it went from looking pretty to looking a little threatening. And we started hearing loud cracks in the neighbourhood. At night, cracks would wake you up and you'd hear big branches falling and it just got totally out of hand. And it really gave everyone in Montreal a sense of how insidious nature can be: how pretty it can be at first and then eventually it just... everything falls apart.
And even now, y-you kind of look back and you remind yourself to be thankful, to be thankful for the things that we have.
After about a week or so--eight days--I-I couldn't stay in my apartment anymore because it was way too cold. I realized when I stepped out of -out of the apartment--it was an old four storey building, built in the twenties--the hallway was totally dark... and I realized that everybody was out of the building. I-I was the last one to leave.
Well, we live in a very fast-paced world, and, you know, we take those things for granted. We take the basic necessities of life--it seems--for granted.
People are very resilient; they bounce back. Even nature is such that we heal very well, and we're survivors.
You wanna see, you wanna help people! You just-you just wanna reach out and help people, and, you know, that's what we hope we do with our stories.
